This week at Express Art we used patterned texture plates with wax crayon, candle wax, and water-based paints. The inspiration was the blackwork designs of Purple Rose Embroidery and the illustrations of local artist Libby Bess, both of whom fill areas in their designs with pattern. We got a bit more technicolour than that starting point, with coloured crayons and paint wash.
Before half term, we did weaving with “bits and beads” using cardboard looms and looms made from sticks. We used yarn, fabric, ribbon, wire, sticks, and beads from the art gallery, plus beads brought along by one of the group.
