RAGM: 'Your Story, Your Collection' Volunteer Needed

Rugby Art Gallery & Museum are looking for volunteers that are interested in the history of the town and meeting new people to get involved in our project, ‘Your Story, Your Collection’ as Oral History Interviewers. The Interviewers will record people’s memories and stories of Rugby which will go into an exhibition at the Museum.

Oral History Volunteer

Volunteer interviewers will be fully trained in oral history interviewing and record interviews with people who live and work in Rugby. There will be a focus on individuals who were not born here, but have moved from different parts of the UK and across the globe.

Volunteers will ideally record at least 2 interviews during the period October 2022 – January 2023.

Ongoing support will be provided by the Project Manager. Ideally interviews will be conducted in person, however, there may be scope to record remotely. Volunteers will be reimbursed for travel expenses.

What’s involved?

Attending an oral history training session on Wednesday 12th October 2022
Conducting at least 2 oral history interviews with local people
Completing archive forms relating to interviews so that they can be added to the collection. This will include details of the participants and a short summary of the interview
To work within data protection, copyright and GDPR guidelines, especially when dealing with sensitive information
To be aware of Covid health and safety guidelines

Why get involved?

You will gain:

Training in oral history interviewing techniques
Experience of conducting oral history interviews and communicating with a wide range of people
Experience in basic archiving
Confidence in communicating with people of all ages
Knowledge of the history of Rugby and diverse cultures and backgrounds

You don’t need to have any experience of oral history or working with museum or heritage collections, but an interest in the local area and its diverse communities is a must! You will be fully trained and supported by the project manager.
