An ambitious plan, by the Rugby PPE Response Team, to manufacture and distribute 10,000 face masks to vulnerable people in Rugby, is about to be realised.
To celebrate the event, organisers held a picnic in Calcecott Park and invited 60 of their voluntary ‘Masketeers’ to bring along and wear samples of their work. On hand to mark the event and to present a certificate of thanks to key project organisers, Gita Natarajan and Pam Sewdyall, was Rugby Mayor, Bill Lewis, who acknowledged the hard work that has made the project such a success.
Nearly 9,000 masks and other PPE have already been made and delivered to a number of charities and support groups in and around the town and the output is still growing, according to Gita Natarajan. In an email to supporters, Gita said “10,000 masks was a daunting number when we started, but I should have known that the people of Rugby would respond. Up until today, we have produced 8943 masks of which 8700 have been distributed to some very worthy recipients. We expect to reach the 10,000 mark within the next weeks.”
